A girl sent to kill the one she is dreaming of
Her target? A Kindred warrior with a beast inside
Can Mia complete her mission?
Or is Trey Hitting the Target when he aims for her heart?
Ormyu Five is the world divided in two
To the north, a police state ruled by the heavy hand of The EYE, which spies on its people constantly and keeps iron control over their lives.
To the South lies Bountiful, a country of free thinkers bustling with trade and blessed with balmy weather. But those from the Northern Block never get to experience its temperate climate for the two halves of Ormyu Five are divided by an impenetrable wall of blue energy called the Great Barrier.
Mia lives in the North and can’t remember a time when she wasn’t looking over her shoulder. Everyone spies on everyone else and reports to The Eye. It is a land of paranoia—a place of constant fear. Even Mia herself has been forced into the ranks of informants—she works as a nurse but also as a covert agent, reporting weekly to her Commandant in The EYE’s headquarters for new assignments. Imagine her surprise and dismay when she recognizes her new target—a huge male with a mane of golden brown hair and pale piercing eyes—as the one she has been dreaming of for months.
Treygar is a rare Lei’on Kindred which means he keeps a hungry beast locked within himself. He came to Ormyu Five with his people, looking for a new genetic trade on the strangely divided planet. What he doesn’t expect is to start dream sharing with one of the inhabitants of the backwards world but that is exactly what happens. He wants to go and find the mysterious, curvy little female but before he can, he runs into her at the transport station.
Mia is scared to death of the huge Kindred warrior. She’s been dreaming of him for months but she assumed It was just that—a dream. Even worse, he is the target she had been sent to the South to track…and possibly to kill. Can she keep herself from falling for Trey and complete her mission? Or is the big Kindred aiming for her heart, Hitting the Target?

"I really loved this book until political views correlating to present day issues intruded into the story. I got past those to finish the book but am thinking this will be my last book from this author. I read for enjoyment and escape. I get enough political junk everywhere else I don't need it in a book I pay for."

Hitting the Target A Kindred Tales Novel Brides of the Kindred edition by Evangeline Anderson Reese Dante Barb Rice Romance eBooks Reviews
- I've read all these books, and enjoyed the stories. This one has some complexities that make it more interesting from a plot perspective.
SPOILERS AHEAD.
Things that made me unhappy. 1--another virgin. This is an extremely weary device, so this will be my last Kindred novel. I simply cannot take yet another virgin. There are thousands of books on with virgins. This series has had some great stories with adult women that were so much richer. I beg of you, Ms. Anderson, please please please stop with the virgins. Real women, grownup, experienced women, are far more interesting. You are a much better writer than the majority of people producing virgin-based stories. This isn't a YA series. I'd be willing to bet most of your readers are well over 30, maybe well over 40. The typical romance reader is over 40! They cannot relate to a 20--something female character as well as a more mature woman. I have nothing against these very young females! They're beautiful, charming, and have their own stories to tell. I just think they've had their representation in earlier Kindred novels, and it's past the point of saturation. Frankly, I'd like to see more older characters. Believe it or not, there is sex, romance, and and complex, fulfilling life after youth. That's true even in sci fi romance.
2--nicknaming the female character "little one." Wow. This is a name that should never be applied to a female of sexual maturity. This implies a child, which is simply icky. I've noticed a number of adult romance authors have stopped applying this type of childish diminutive to females. Good for them. I really believe this is an important point. There are so many other options.
I have loved quite a bit of this series, and this story has a lot of good points. - This is actually the first review I have ever written, but I really feel strongly about this topic.
I had already been "over" the constant timid women and virgins found in EVERY book, but I enjoy the sex scenes so I keep hoping for a more agressive plot line.
This book ended it for me. Adding to the repeatedly familiar h/H dynamics, you now have to introduce annoying politics to the story line!? You are supposed to be building a world I can escape to, not a world I would rather ignore.
I get it, everyone has an opinion and you get to put yours on ! Congratulations! Well, I'll be sure to spend my money on an author who puts more effort into creating an elaborate and ever-changing story line rather than one who has decided to use her series as a soap box. - I used to really enjoy all Ms. Andersons kindred books but, unless she changes up the writing a bit, this series has nowhere to go but down. I like most of the characters and most of the plots, my problem is that the way she expresses the thoughts and feelings of the characters makes them all so similar. The naivete of the h, the hesitancy of the H, the stammering, and the repeating of the same essential sexual situations and talk (straight from the source! Ugh!) is getting really old. I get that these men revere women but I really wish these Hs weren't so hesitant and tentative. This plot had so much potential to be so much better but again, Ms. Anderson gave us the same that she's given us for the last - I don't know how many - books. I will continue reading this series for one or two more books but if they are, again, so similar, I will be done with it. We'll see.
1 star = awful! want my money back!
2 stars = bad but not horrendous
3 stars = decent\good
4 stars = really good! will probably read again.
5 stars = excellent! definitely recommend and will definitely read again! - I really loved this book until political views correlating to present day issues intruded into the story. I got past those to finish the book but am thinking this will be my last book from this author. I read for enjoyment and escape. I get enough political junk everywhere else I don't need it in a book I pay for.
- A self-professed xenophile, I have to admit that Evangeline’s Kindred Tales are my guilty pleasure. As soon as a new one comes out, I actually BUY it (despite the plethora of freebies to be had over the internet) and read it immediately in one sitting!
This latest story does not disappoint.
In an all-too Trumpian Land of fear mongering, male superiority and walls, our eventual heroine Mia is plucked from sad obscurity to play the role of Mata Hari across the southern border of the Wall, where Life is freer, warmer and more colorful. Her target is the Kindred Trey, who harbors an inner leonine beast. Naturally, they have been dream sharing, and their rocky road to Goddess-assisted Love is beset by both totalitarian government interference and personal insecurities.
Mia is as appealing as she is vulnerable, and Trey and his beast are fiercely protective and heroic. There is a backdrop of the familiar Kindred superstructure and characters. The provocative and graphic erotic scenes are believable and well written and, believe it or don’t, Love conquers ALL!
A great escape from Reality... - I love the Brides of the Kindred and find that the Kindred Tales are a hit or miss or me. This one is pretty good. A girl in a totalitarian district is forced to spy or her grandmother will pay the price. She is forced to another country to spy on the aliens that have come to her planet. As usual the author builds a fantastic new world and sets our H and h on a collision course. I really liked this story but the best part is the setup for the next Brides of the Kindred story featuring the Volt Kindred we met several books ago - it looks awesome.
