Notes on Graphic Design and Visual Communication 9781560520443 Computer Science Books Reviews

  • I needed this book for one of my graphic design classes in college. It is much cheaper on here than buying at the campus bookstore. As much as I dislike college, this was an easy-to-read textbook (if you even consider it a textbook) and is quite thin... thinner than my pinkie finger. There are illustrations for almost every explanation and make graphic design ALMOST look easy! )
  • There are only 46 pages of what may have started as a personal notebook pre-dating the digital age. It was used when I studied graphic design (pre-Macintosh), and is still being recommended by instructors 30 years later. In some ways, it is difficult to read being as most of it was hand-inked, but that's how our notebooks were done back when. Every important graphic design topic is covered in this slim volume. Nowadays, there are 300-page books available that cover each topic to include color images and expansive elaboration. Consider this a "cliff notes" version or a thick cheat sheet in one. Easy to pack away for quick refreshing of terminology. I keep mine at my work station.
  • The only reason I gave this a four out of five stars is because the author wrote in all caps which is incredibly hard to read page after page. It also goes against the graphic design rule of not writing in all caps unless it's a short headline. Other than that, this book is great for all levels of designers. For beginners it tells all the principles and walks through how to go about projects. For intermediate and advanced it's good to have by your computer to refresh yourself every now and then on the principles of good design. Great book... would recommend to anyone in the design field.
  • If I could summarize graphic design in one book for my students, this would be it. It might be a little "retro", but that doesn't stop the information from being relevant today. It covers all beginning level design topics. I highly recommend!
  • My most indispensable book on graphic design. Short, but packed with great information on each page. Mine is marked up with highlighter all over. Be sure to follow the references to other books and pick them up as well.
  • it's simple and powerful. I bought it as textbook for my design class. Although my professor said that you can get this book somewhere else used for about a dollar but I think the content is worth the price. In fact, I'd say priceless.
  • Fine, nice content.
  • Pithy and to the point
